A polite Canadian man named Jordan Cote recently decided to simply ask a black bear to leave his yard. He advised the animal that there were children getting on the bus, and it needed to leave. The bear kindly acquiesced, leaving the yard promptly . . . probably because Cote said “please.” Footage of the encounter is now circulating online.

ABC 7 News is one of many news outlets that shared the footage. ABC wrote that Cote shot the video at his home on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, and that he apparently “deals with these interactions constantly.” Clearly, he knows what works.

“Thank you,” Cote says after the bear turns to leave. “Have a good day.”

“Canadians are so bear-y nice,” jokes one person in the comments section.
