A dashboard camera caught an intense moment on video in Japan. A police vehicle was driving down a road surrounded on both sides by wooded areas, when the officers spotted a couple of bears on the side of the road. The driver slowed, and the mother bear saw the vehicle as a threat, attacking the front hood, likely in an effort to protect her cub from the perceived threat.

“Dashcam video shows the moment a protective mother bear charged and attacked a vehicle,” wrote Fox 12 Oregon in an Instagram post sharing the footage from Nayoro Police. “In the video, the brown bear backs off and then charges the vehicle again while the driver remains safely inside. After the attack, the bear ran off into the darkness with her cub.”
