A hiker named Brian Seibert fell while descending from Mount Morgan, a peak in the Sierra Nevada range of California. The 53-year-old “peak bagger” was well known and loved in the area’s outdoor community. Mono County Sheriff Search and Rescue Team shared details about the search effort in a Facebook post.
“On Monday, October 5th, at 1130 hours, the Team was paged by the Mono County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) for a report of an overdue hiker (peak bagger), previously identified in a missing person’s report as Brian Seibert, who was last heard from after attempting Mt. Morgan via the North Ridge the night prior, at approximately 1900 hours,” wrote MCSO in the post.

During the search effort, helicopter crews identified “an anomaly” near the bottom of Grand Central Couloir, a prominent east-facing gully off of the summit proper. The anomaly was Seibert, and MCSO determined that the victim “sustained an unsurvivable fall from a cliff band at the base of the couloir.”
Sundi Reince commented on MCSO’s post, writing: “Brian is my ex husband and still a good friend. We were lucky to have that. His boys and I are so sad, we were always hoping he would be found maybe injured but alive. Even though that didn’t happen it was really comforting to know all the hard work you did for those days to find him. We are very grateful to you. This is heartbreaking, but just wanted to say we truly appreciate all you do. Thank you.”
