Important Update: Brainerd Jaycee Extravaganza Transitions to Hybrid Model

Brainerd, MN -1/25/2024 Ice conditions remain to be somewhat unstable in the wider Brainerd area, resulting in today’s important announcement by the Brainerd Jaycee organizers.

The update for the upcoming ice fishing tournament was published a few hours ago, and the organizers of the Extravaganza hope it’ll reach as many people as possible.

After all, the event is scheduled for next Saturday, February 3.

What Is the Brainerd Jaycee Announcement All About?

The update for the upcoming ice fishing tournament was published a few hours ago, and the organizers of the Extravaganza hope it’ll reach as many people as possible.

After all, the event is scheduled for next Saturday, February 3.

It’s a major change, that’s for sure, but given the mild weather conditions in northern Minnesota, I think the event planners were wise to focus on safety first!

Keep that in mind when reading through the update, and please remember that the Extravaganza is organized by a group of volunteers who invest a lot of time and effort into making this event possible.

But what’s this big announcement all about, then?

Here is the official statement the Brainerd Jaycees Ice Fishing Extravaganza organizers sent out earlier today:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: BRAINERD JAYCEE MAKE AN EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT

In light of our unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of all participants, the Brainerd Jaycee Ice Fishing Extravaganza is excited to share our plans for the upcoming 2024 tournament scheduled for February 3rd.

In the spirit of adaptability and safety, we have devised a plan that prioritizes the well-being of the public, our community, and the dedicated anglers who make this event truly special.

After careful consideration, the Extravaganza is pivoting to a hybrid model for the upcoming tournament.

Our commitment to the ice fishing tradition remains strong, concentrating on its three core ideals.
1) Bringing in economic support to area businesses
2) Donating all proceeds to area charities and nonprofits
3) Encouraging people of all ages to enjoy the best Midwest hobby! Our hybrid model remains focused on our key mission while also addressing safety concerns.

Recognizing the importance of adapting to the current circumstances, the Extravaganza will transition to a hybrid model using Fish Donkey as the platform, keeping the February 3rd date but with extended contest hours.

Participants will register for the tournament, uploading a picture of their ticket, which is needed to qualify for the event.

This hybrid model extends the tournament across multiple Brainerd Area lakes where participants can still compete and experience the thrill of the Extravaganza from the safety and comfort of their chosen locations.

The committee is also working on providing in-person support on main accesses across the area to directly help contestants who may not be familiar with the platform.

Multiple changes have been adapted from the Fish Donkey tournament held in 2021.

While online ticket sales will end today, contestants are encouraged to buy tickets from their local Fleet Farm stores or participating outlets.

The will call and Information booth will also be available to help our participants throughout the transition.

While we understand that this may not be the ideal scenario for some participants, we deem it crucial to prioritize safety and flexibility in light of unprecedented ice conditions.

We insist that all contestants exercise utmost caution on any ice. Our steadfast commitment to delivering an unforgettable and thrilling event remains a priority.

Rest assured, our confidence in this hybrid approach enables us to navigate and overcome any challenges that may arise.

Please stay updated on all information by visiting icefishing.org, following our official social channels, and joining our mailing list.

Thank you for your continued enthusiasm and participation in the Brainerd Jaycee Ice Fishing Extravaganza.

Stay warm, stay safe, and happy fishing!

People Online Want More Clarification

Important Update: Brainerd Jaycee Extravaganza Transitions to Hybrid Model
One of last year’s weigh-in stations at the Extravaganza

As I had some remaining questions, I skimmed Extravaganza’s social media channel immediately after receiving the update and saw that others would also like more information and clarification on the matter.

For one thing, the announcement didn’t specify what lakes will now be included in the tournament.

It merely reads “multiple Brainerd Area lakes,” which can include quite a lot of lakes.

Furthermore, people on Facebook also asked about things like species, prize structures, and the mentioned extended contest hours.

The Brainerd Jaycee organizers responded to those requests by ensuring that there will be more detailed information coming out soon (which I’ll also cover here on the site, of course).

And while I can understand the confusion and irritation to some degree, I’d like to repeat the fact that we’re talking about volunteer work here. And hard work at that!

I think the Extravaganza guys and girls are trying everything they can to make the event happen while also ensuring that everybody involved stays safe.

Time is of the essence, and it takes a lot of dedication, structure, and cool-headedness not only to come up with a fast and smooth solution but also to turn it into reality in about one week from now.

Not to mention the amount of stress this puts on everybody’s shoulders!

So, please remain cool-headed and focused yourselves and wait for further details to be announced (hopefully very soon).
