A man hiking in Alaska’s Katmai National Park had a close encounter with a brown bear, and he called it “the worst thing that could happen.”
“My Worst Nightmare in Katmai National Park happened today,” wrote Chris Hatanaka in his Instagram post sharing footage of him coming upon a brown bear hanging out near Brooks River.

Hatanaka reacted how he’s supposed to react upon seeing a bear, backing away slowly and speaking in a calm but loud voice. It’s unclear whether he had bear spray on him at the time.
Thankfully, the bear was most interested in getting Hatanaka out of there, so once he retreated, there was no further issue.
