Woman Traveled To Every U.S. National Park And Shared Her Favorite Hidden Gems

Talk about an experienced traveler. Business Insider shared the experience of Emily Hunt, a woman who has traveled to every U.S. national park. Not only has this explorer been to every national park, but she has traveled them all solo. Hats off to you, Emily! Now, she is sharing her experiences and revealing her favorite national park hidden gems.

Emily starts her recap by paying homage to the fan-favorites. She admits that she understands why parks such as Yosemite or the Great Smoky Mountains have their appeal. She shared, “They’re iconic for a reason, with sweeping vistas and easily recognizable landscapes.”

However, after exploring all 63 of our country’s national parks, she found some hidden gems that others may have missed. The experienced explorer shared seven of her favorite national parks and why she loves them.

First up on her list was Michigan’s remote Isle Royale National Park. If you have never heard of it, you are not alone. Emily admits that not many are aware of the fact that Michigan has a national park. Part of the reason for the lack of knowledge is that it “is pretty remote and can only be accessed by ferry, seaplane, or private watercraft.” However, she admits that it has beautiful hiking trails and strongly recommends it.

Next on her list, she shared information about the New River Gorge in West Virginia. When speaking of this national park, she shared a unique hidden gem. This park is “famous for its towering single-span steel arch.” Additionally, she mentions how “New River Gorge Bridge is the third-highest bridge in the US.” Visitors can also find great hiking, biking, and rafting opportunities here.

The List Of National Park Hidden Gems Continues

Third, this explorer shares details about Black Canyon of the Gunnison in Colorado. Emily argues that despite being one of the least visited national parks in Colorado, it offers “one of the most dramatic sights” she has ever seen. Seems like it is definitely worth checking out.

Next, she discussed Florida’s Dry Tortugas National Park. If you want an international feel without leaving the US, then this national park may be for you. She shared that “this park comprises seven islands, including Garden Key, which is home to the 19th-century Fort Jefferson, coral reefs, and incredible snorkeling opportunities on the beach.”

From there, she discussed Voyageurs National Park in Northern Minnesota and Capitol Reef in Utah. She described the former as “one of the most memorable park trips” she has ever taken. The latter, she admitted, might be lesser known than other parks, but is no less spectacular. She argues it is a great spot for stargazing.

Finally, the last national park hidden gem she discussed was located in Alaska. Her favorite of all of the Alaskan parks is the Kenai Fjords National Park. According to the explorer, this park “encompasses 600,000 acres of coastal inlands, fjords, glaciers, and mountain peaks.” With all of those stunning views, it is no wonder it made it on the list of national park hidden gems.
