Dr. Christine Figgener is a sea turtle biologist working in Costa Rica, and she recently filmed a scene that’s piquing many people’s interests—a beach absolutely full of sea turtles. Figgener calls it “olive ridley rush hour.” Olive ridley sea turtles are famous for their mass nesting events called arribadas, in which thousands of female turtles come to the same beach at the same time to lay eggs.

“September to December is when olive ridley rush hour really gets serious in Central America,” Dr. Figgener wrote in her Instagram post sharing the video. “The largest olive ridley mass nestings (aka arribadas) of the year happen around now, and the first three days are usually the busiest. Apparently this really is the place to be.”

She adds in a separate post that this “invasion” only occurs on a few beaches in the world.
