VIDEO: An Off-Road Drive for Leaf Peeping Leads to a Massive Flock of Sheep

A driver in a Jeep who was on a mountain road for leaf peeping ended up in the middle of a massive flock of sheep. It’s a video you have to see to believe.

Check it out:

“Up in the mountains, enjoying the fall colors until things took a turn. Wait for it,” reads the text on the video as a leisurely ride turns into something much more wild.

A man named John, who shares a lot of videos from Utah, posted the footage. In it, you can hear him laughing about how strange the situation is. While driving down a dirt road, he slams on the brakes at the sight of a few sheep. But the numbers only grow as the massive herd makes its way down the road.

In the comments, John says he was on the Wasatch Crest Trail, not far from Ogden, Utah.

“I thoroughly enjoyed this experience because it was crazy and unexpected. I’m not a sheep herder, nor do I live on a farm, so yes, I had no idea what to do,” he wrote. “The lane was only one truck-width wide, with no room to back up or turn around. I waited about seven or eight minutes for them to pass. There was one cowboy and five or six dogs at the end, driving them down the road.”

It’s a wild encounter in nature that didn’t exactly involve wild animals. So what should you do if you run into livestock while leaf peeping?

Officials like the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space recommend following the same rules you would for wild animals: try not to startle them and keep your distance. If you have a pet with you, keep it on a leash to protect both your pet and the livestock.
