This Sweet Bond Between Rhino Calf And Baby Zebra Has The Internet Collectively Awwing

Talk about a silver lining. After these two wild animals faced similar unfortunate circumstances, they formed the cutest interspecies friendship. Now the internet is in love with the adorable rhino calf and baby zebra that stole all of our hearts.

The Cutest Interspecies Friendship

PEOPLE shared insight into this unfortunate yet adorable tale. Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is currently caring for both the rhino calf and the baby zebra. Both animals were taken into their care after enduring a tragedy.

Tytan, a baby black rhino, and Notty, a baby zebra, were both orphaned. Then, they were both brought to the Wildlife Trust within a week of each other. The two orphaned young are now being cared for at the Nairobi Nursery. The Nairobi Nursery is “a specialized care facility for infant orphaned elephants, rhinos, and other wildlife.”

PEOPLE shared that not only did both young animals arrive at the same wildlife rescue, but they also endured similar tragedies. Tytan’s mom fell down a cliff and died. Rescuers shared that they believe she was being pursued by a male black rhino. Notty’s mother also fell down a cliff and died.

Now, the two have bonded through tragedy and have formed the most adorable interspecies friendship. Maybe the friendship will continue after they are returned to the wild.

Brighter Futures Ahead

Sheldrick Wildlife Trust shared with the outlet that they have every intention of releasing the interspecies friendship when they are ready. After all, the nonprofit is dedicated to “the conservation, preservation, and protection of Kenya’s wildlife.”

Additionally, they have a specialized project called the Orphans’ Project. The program focuses on rescuing and rewilding orphaned baby animals. Both orphaned animals are living well and benefiting from the program. Currently, they each have their own sleeping quarters and caretakers, but during the day, they are free to interact with one another.

While the two are inseparable for now, rescuers argue that they do not expect the interspecies friendship to continue into adulthood. They are aware that these friendships are common in adolescence, but as the rhino and zebra grow, they will stick to their own species. I am sure I am not the only one who hopes that Tytan and Notty remain friends even in the wild.
