The POV Video From a Skateboarding World Record Is Terrifying

Professional skateboarder Sandro Dias recently broke a world record for the highest drop in on a skateboard. Using a massive, specially built skate ramp (the world’s biggest, according to Red Bull), Dias dropped in from a mind-numbing height of 70 meters (230 feet). And now, the POV video from Dias’s helmet is providing a whole new look at what it was really like to break this skateboarding world record.

“We were not ready for the POV to look like THAT,” wrote Red Bull in an Instagram post sharing the POV footage. The video has more than 12 million views on that platform alone.

Red Bull added in a post following the record-breaking drop in that Dias reached a speed of 103 km/h (64 mph).

While preparing for the 70-meter drop in that ultimately broke the record, Dias dropped in from successively higher ledges built into the big ramp. To get to each spot, Dias had to take an elevator to the top and then rappel down to each ramp. After all of that effort, he then had to actually ride his skateboard down the ramp without crashing. Thankfully, he did.
