When doing outdoor things, you’ll inevitably be doing those things near a bunch of critters. One man wasn’t fazed in the slightest when he was tubing down the San Marcos River in Texas and spotted a large diamondback water snake (Nerodia rhombifer) swimming nearby.
Someone had the camera going when the man picked the snake up out of the water and held it, even though it looked like some sort of river monster covered in algae. The snake was furiously trying to bite him, too. We don’t know for sure, but it looks like the snake did bite the man at least once, but thankfully, it’s a non-venomous species. (The man obviously knew the snake was harmless.)
The man, Jarrod, who goes by “Jarrod The Wildside” on TikTok, gave some backstory to this video in his TikTok caption. Apparently, he was rescuing the snake from some other tubers.
“Caught and relocated this harmless snake away from tubers throwing rocks at it,” he wrote. “Leave nature alone!”
Jarrod didn’t stop at catching the bullied snake. He then took it to the riverbank and released it somewhere safe.
Watch a man catch and release a water snake while tubing here:
Would you step in if you saw other people harassing wildlife? Even if it was a snake?
