Idaho Fish and Game recently shared footage of a rare wolverine sighting in Idaho. An outdoorsman spotted the elusive animal, which was across a lake from the person filming. The animal kept a weary eye on the person filming as it went about its business.

“A rare sighting of Idaho’s most impressive carnivore: the wolverine,” wrote Idaho Fish and Game in an Instagram post sharing the man’s video. “[. . .] Excessive hunting, trapping, and poisoning around the turn of the 20th century decimated wolverine populations, and they’ve struggled to recover ever since — only about 318 individuals are estimated to remain in the lower 48. Given their difficult habitat and low numbers across the western US, spotting a wolverine is truly a rare and special event!”
