A man who is used to looking out for rare species in California was delighted to come across a group of badgers hanging around near a road. He shared footage of the animals on social media, so others can enjoy the rare sight, too.

“Never in my life!” said california_every_reptile in his footage of the badgers, which he shared to Instagram. The man behind the account is on a quest to find every species of snake, lizard, turtle, frog, and salamander in the state of California. The badgers weren’t on his check list, but they were a very welcome surprise.

“A Clan of Badgers! A very cool wildlife observation for me and something I’ve always wanted to see here in SoCal!” the man wrote in his caption.

The online community agreed that the footage is special.

“So exciting!! I’ve been actively searching for 3 years with no luck yet. Congratulations!” wrote one person in the comments section.
