People Magazine shared the story of Nitya, the lovebird, and her owner, Marc Joseph Colando. Unfortunatley, Nitya suffered a debilitating cat attack. That attack left her with the inability to fly. When speaking with the outlet, Colando shared details of the attack.
“Nitya was injured when a cat grabbed her from a friend’s shoulder,” he shared. While she did retain the ability to enjoy “short, low flights,” it appeared that her days of truly flying were over. That is because Colando explained that “her toes have no coordination.” Therefore, she “cannot stand, walk, or land properly.
Rather than just accept his beloved lovebird’s fate, Colando decided he needed to think of a solution. He began playing with the idea of using drones to help his feathered friend enjoy the skies once more — and it turned out his plan worked.
A Drone Helps An Injured Bird To Fly
Colando admitted that the idea came to him during a morning meditation and that as soon as he thought of it, he put the plan into action. He attached a small, clear cabin device to a drone. Then, he placed his bird inside the device, allowing her to see the air as the drone flew her around.
People Magazine shared a video clip of the injured bird enjoying its unconventional flight. She appeared happy as she was squeaking from inside the safety of her clear cabin. When discussing the success of his plan, Colando admitted that he had no choice but to help his injured friend.
She is more than just a pet to him; she is “his second heartbeat.”
