While there are many reasons that I would love to visit Australia, there are also several things that make me hesitant. Apart from the very real possibility of stumbling across a massive snake or spider, Australia is also the land of the crocodiles. While I can appreciate these majestic animals in a zoo or from afar, I have no desire to get up close and personal with one. Unfortunately for one man, that is exactly what happened. After enjoying a dip, this man was attacked and later hospitalized following the gnarly crocodile attack.

PEOPLE shared some of the harrowing details of this crocodile attack. A 26-year-old man was just enjoying a swim in a creek in Queensland, Australia, on January 20. Unfortunately for him, that peaceful swim turned hectic very quickly.
During his swim, the man was attacked by a crocodile. The outlet shared that an Amubulance Service spokesperson shared some details regarding his condition. They shared that the man “sustained puncture wounds to his lower back, legs, and hand.”
After rescuers arrived on the scene, the man was transported to Ingham Hospital to be treated for his injuries. Luckily, he is currently in stable condition. Additionally, the outlet shared that he will be transferred to Townsville University Hospital. Also, he was the only victim in this crocodile attack.
Officials Warn You Need To Be Aware
While everyone is thankful that this individual seems to be on the road to recovery, officials warn others to be on the lookout. After all, as I said, Australia is crocodile country, so crocodile attacks are not unheard of. When speaking to PEOPLE, a spokesperson from the Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation said that they were investigating the attack.
Additionally, residents of the area and nearby areas shared that there have been increased sightings of crocodiles. One was even spotted just behind people’s homes just days before the incident occurred. With all that in mind, Mayor Ramon Jayo shared that this unfortunate attack serves as a good reminder for people.
If you live in croc country, you need to be “croc-wise.”
