A humpback whale was spotted near Timmendorfer Strand off Germany’s Baltic coast. The poor creature got stuck on a sandbank and was stranded for several days. Rescuers made several rescue attempts, but none of them were successful. Finally, one attempt was made that was successful, and the whale finally managed to swim to safety.

Whale Stranded On German Beach For Days

In Focus shared details about the humpback whale’s unfortunate situation and eventual rescue. The 39 to 49-foot humpback whale managed to get itself stranded on a German beach. Upon first noticing the stuck creature, rescuers immediately got to work. Initially, the outlet shared that the rescue attempts proved unsuccessful.

However, after the use of heavy machinery to dig a channel, “the whale was finally able to return to sea overnight.” Rescuers worked tirelessly to accomplish the task, but progress was slow. Especially because they took the time to acclimate the animal to the noise of the machinery. The idea was to acclimate the whale to the sound so as not to shock it.

A couple of days after the channel was dug, the whale began to slowly make its way through the channel. The outlet shared that rescuers encouraged the humpback whale to keep making progress by making “lots of noise.” Once the whale successfully made its way outside of the channel, it was accompanied by “a small armada of police, coast guard, volunteer, and research vessels.” All of those people are ensuring that the humpback whale that was stranded on a German beach can now safely make its way ot the open waters of the North Sea.

Thank goodness for the dedication of people and rescue teams. May this humpback whale have no further close calls and enjoy nothing but wide open waters from here on out.
