Exploring Australia’s Greatest Western Travels with Lyn

Come along with us as Lyn takes us on a journey with her Achtung Camper exploring Australia’s Greatest Western Travels. Lyn’s van is named ‘The Scarab’ this is based on Egyptian mythology. The scarab signifies, rebirth, resurrection, going every day from darkness to light. Lyn links this analogy to be a “bit like travelling – every day is a new experience.” Her van is also a play on VW ‘beetle’ and it is her ‘shell’ while she is travelling!

So far she has travelled 8400Kms on her trip in Western Australia. All they way from Frankston Lyns first stop was Port Augusta. She has been through the incredible Nullarbor to Kalgoorlie and across to Dalwinnu. Ventuing up Highway 95, she passed through Meekaratha, Mt Magnet,  Newman, Karijini National Park Park and Pt Hedland then finally making it to Broome.

She then headed south and onto coastal highway passing through Onslow, Exmouth, Coral Bay, Carnarvon, Monkey Mia – shark bay, Kalbarri and Mullewa in Wild Flower country. Lyn has made it to Coalseam Conservation Park, which she says has the most “amazing pocket of eucalypt bush and wildflowers amongst the wheat fields”.

Lyn is looking forward to the rest of her trip where she will travel through Western Australia visiting Perth and head down south through Margaret River, Albany and Esperance over the next few weeks.

Lyn’s Top 3 Travel Tips:

  1. Keep fuel topped up in outback as there are always surprise closures or no fuel where you expect there to be.
  2. Have plenty of audio books or podcasts to fill the hours on the long straight roads.
  3. Don’t drive to the speed limit . Let the road trains pass and take your time . It is far less stressful.
