A fire crew on a rescue boat required rescue themselves when a whale breached, busted a hole in their boat, and sank it. This happed in the Port of New York and New Jersey. Apparently, this was a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

“CFD Marine 2 was violently struck beneath the stern by a surfacing whale that breached the water south of the Arthur Kill at the mouth of Raritan Bay, causing catastrophic damage to the vessel,” wrote the Carteret Fire Department & EMS Division in a Facebook post sharing photos from the incident. “The boat immediately began taking on water, leaving the firefighters aboard only seconds to abandon the vessel.”
KIRO 7 News reports that Sara Morris, executive director of Shoals Marine Laboratory, said: “I think the boat was in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
The online community flooded the post with comments saying they’re glad no one was hurt in the accident. Others called it a “bizarre situation.”
