A couple visiting Mammoth, California, didn’t believe all the warning signs about “high bear activity,” until they saw it for themselves. While driving past what appears to be a trailhead, the couple started seeing bears “everywhere.” The animals were breaking into parked cars like it was nothing.

“On our way to the main lodge, we saw a sign that said ‘High Bear Activity Area.’ We laughed . . . until a few minutes later we started seeing bears everywhere,” wrote Walter Cueva in an Instagram post sharing footage of the bears. “They were breaking into cars, smashing windows, bending doors, and opening metal doors like they were made of paper. I had no idea they were that strong.”

In bear country, it’s extremely important to lock car doors and windows and to store food and scented products in bear lockers.
